hs-CRP (mg/L)
High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) measures low-grade inflammation in the body, detecting levels far below what a standard CRP test can see. People test it because chronic low-level inflammation is associated with cardiovascular risk, and hs-CRP adds a dimension that cholesterol numbers alone do not capture.

The importance of hs-CRP
CRP is a protein the liver releases in response to inflammation anywhere in the body. The high-sensitivity assay detects the subtle, chronic elevations, fractions of a milligram per liter, that are associated with atherosclerosis, rather than the large spikes caused by acute infection or injury.
Because any inflammation raises CRP, context matters enormously. A cold, a dental infection, a hard training block, or a recent injury can push hs-CRP up temporarily, so a surprising result is usually rechecked after a few weeks before conclusions are drawn. Persistently elevated values, by contrast, tend to track with visceral fat, smoking, poor sleep, and metabolic dysfunction.
